On Sunday, August 14, President Obama declared that a major disaster exists in the State of Louisiana and ordered Federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by severe storms and flooding. At least 11 deaths have been attributed to the flooding, more than 30,000 people have been evacuated, and 12,000 are currently in shelters. More than 40,000 homes and businesses are without power and Louisiana State University has shuttered its doors as a result of flooding on the campus.
Corporate and employee donors can make a difference for the Louisiana community – not just today, but long after the cameras have left and the nation has moved on.
The new America’s Charities Disaster Recovery Cause Fund – Louisiana Floods ensures your donation dollars are distributed to vetted nonprofits supporting local recovery efforts, based on in-depth research conducted by the *Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP). We are diving deep into the needs of Louisiana, including its residents, infrastructure and more, to identify the ongoing challenges and disperse funds as the needs of the Louisiana flood disaster dictate.
