Prevent Cancer 5k Walk/Run Sets Record
Prevent Cancer Foundation’s Prevent Cancer 5k Walk/Run the most successful yet, thanks to all of the participants, donors, sponsors and volunteers who helped out and attended this past week’s event. This year, they had a record setting 1,500 participants come out to Nationals Park and raised over $149,000 to support the Foundation’s mission of saving lives through cancer prevention and early detection!
This year’s event involved a two wave start with runners leading the charge at 9 a.m. followed by walkers and families with strollers at 9:05 a.m. After running around the stadium, runners and walkers enjoyed a beautiful scenic course that took them through Yards Park onto the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail before finishing up the timeline ramp of Nationals Park. Once across the finish line, participants refueled with food donated by Subway, Whole Foods of Old Town and Athena Water. They also had the opportunity to receive free health screenings from our health partners on site and to learn about cancer prevention and early detection by visiting the Prevent Cancer Super Colon™ and the Prevent Cancer Foundation information table. As an added bonus, participants had the opportunity to experience warming up like a pro inside the Nationals batting cages (open to anyone willing to strike out).
