Featured Charity: ServiceSource

See how ServiceSource‘s life-changing services are enriching the lives of disabled individuals, helping them to thrive and be active members of the community.

ServiceSourceIn this week’s Featured Charity Blog, the team at ServiceSource, a leading nonprofit disability resource organization with regional offices and programs located in eight states and the District of Columbia, tells us about their organization’s work and lets us know how donations allow them to make an impact in the community.

What does ServiceSource do?

Here at ServiceSource, we are committed to enriching the lives of individuals with disabilities. We believe that with the right support and services, every person can live their lives to the fullest. We currently serve over 15,700 people nationwide through a broad range of customized services, from employment to therapy to housing. These services cultivate and highlight the many valuable assets our participants already have, showing how important they are to a diverse workforce and community.

We also provide direct employment to our participants. Through our government contracts, ServiceSource employs more than 1,500 people; this makes us one of the largest employers of individuals with disabilities. Our Warrior Bridge program focuses specifically on the needs and employment of wounded, ill or injured veterans.

Another vital service we provide is day habilitation programs for people with significant and often multiple disabilities. We provide programs such as music, art, and dance therapy. We are able to provide an individualized plan for all of our participants to make sure they receive the best possible care.

We firmly believe that our participants already have the skills needed to succeed and thrive. As an organization we offer the tools and opportunities and provide any supports they may need on their path.

How can a person or company help and what kind of impact does that help have?

Donations are a vital part of our foundation. Our day programs for people with disabilities would not be possible without donations. In our day habilitation programs the life-changing services we provide are primarily funded by donations. A donation to ServiceSource can help build a new sensory room where our participants take part in beneficial therapies they would not be afforded elsewhere. A donation can allow one of our participants to ride a horse for the first time in our therapeutic riding after they have been in a wheelchair their entire life. A donation makes it possible for our participants to have new musical instruments in music therapy and art supplies in art therapy. Music and art therapy provides a method for our non-verbal participants to express themselves. We have many therapies that benefit our participants which are directly funded by donations.

With continued support we are able to increase the amount of people we can serve through these programs, as well as increase the amount of life-changing services all directly benefiting our participants.

What do you wish more people knew about your work?

We wish that people knew how many different services our company provides for people with disabilities. We don’t simply provide employment or habilitation; we provide an individualized plan for the needs of each of our participants. Whether it is housing, employment, habilitation, or veteran support, ServiceSource is there to provide the services needed by people with disabilities and their families.
