Celebrate National Reading Month This March
By America's Charities on March 15, 2021
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” - Dr. Seuss
In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, March is designated as National Reading Month - a month to motivate Americans of all ages to read every day.
Reading is fun and has many benefits, regardless of your age. It's a key component of education and professional development. It also has immediate and long-lasting health benefits such as increased cognitive function, memory, vocabulary, empathy and decreased levels of stress.
In honor of #NationalReadingMonth, America's Charities is celebrating the following agents of change who we are proud to call our members:
Reading Is Fundamental - Reading Is Fundamental is committed to a literate America by inspiring a passion for reading among all children, provided quality content to create impact, and engaging communities in the solution to give every child the fundamental building blocks for success. Their model for impact is grounded in creating a culture of literacy for the children we serve - providing choice and access to books, as well as engagement opportunities for these children and the educators, parents, and caregivers that nurture and support them. Reading Is Fundamental provides free books for children nationwide and engages children, parents, and communities in reading and motivational activities to encourage a lifelong love of reading. The Sesame Street Yellow Feather Fund (Sesame Workshop) - The Yellow Feather Fund is the nonprofit behind Sesame Street, the pioneering TV show teaching children since 1969. Today, they are an innovative force for change, active in over 150 countries, serving vulnerable children through philanthropically-funded social impact programs. Generations of kids have grown up watching Sesame Street, but they're much more than a beloved television show. From timely research, to classroom curricula, to large-scale social impact projects, you can find them everywhere kids and families learn and play. The Sesame Street Yellow Feather Fund's mission is to help kids grow smarter, stronger and kinder.
Throughout the month of March, we encourage you to:
