Celebrate National Reading Month This March

Share the power and joy of reading!

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss

In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, March is designated as National Reading Month – a month to motivate Americans of all ages to read every day.

Reading is fun and has many benefits, regardless of your age. It’s a key component of education and professional development. It also has immediate and long-lasting health benefits such as increased cognitive function, memory, vocabulary, empathy and decreased levels of stress.

In honor of #NationalReadingMonth, America’s Charities is celebrating the following agents of change who we are proud to call our members:

Arlington Housing Corporation (AHC Inc.) – As a not-for-profit developer of affordable housing communities for low-income families and individuals in the mid-Atlantic region, AHC has learned that it takes more than bricks and mortar to build successful futures. Through its award-winning Resident Services program, AHC is creating stability and opportunity through social services and year-round educational programs including After-School literacy activities, Teen Tutoring, College & Career prep, and a Summer Camp to prevent learning loss.

Reading Is Fundamental – Reading Is Fundamental is committed to a literate America by inspiring a passion for reading among all children, provided quality content to create impact, and engaging communities in the solution to give every child the fundamental building blocks for success. Their model for impact is grounded in creating a culture of literacy for the children we serve – providing choice and access to books, as well as engagement opportunities for these children and the educators, parents, and caregivers that nurture and support them. Reading Is Fundamental provides free books for children nationwide and engages children, parents, and communities in reading and motivational activities to encourage a lifelong love of reading.

Throughout the month of March, we encourage you to:

  • Join us in celebrating National Reading Month! Follow us on Twitter and Facebook as we share how our members’ specific programs provide access to books and encourage reading.

  • Donate & raise money for these nonprofits. America’s Charities is proud of the work our member charities do and proud to be their workplace giving partner. One of the most cost-efficient ways you can support these nonprofits is to donate to them via payroll deduction through your employer’s workplace giving program (Don’t have a program?
