Making Impact: Preventing Homelessness by Helping People in Central Florida Find Jobs

Christian HELP Foundation is devoted to preventing homelessness by helping people in Central Florida find jobs.

From equipping and empowering people with all the tools they need for their job search including one on one employment counseling, job skills classes, job fairs, and an online job board, to providing food and other basic needs, Christian HELP provides for people materially and spiritually.

In this Q&A, Development Director, Jackie Normand, shares her role in executing Christian HELP’s mission.

Q&A With Jackie Normand:

What attracted you to this job & particular cause?

Christian HELP is a very humble but mighty Ministry.  The care and love they showed the community impelled me to serve alongside them.

Walk us through a “typical” day in your shoes. How are you making an impact through your work?

As the Development Director I am tasked with the fundraising for Christian HELP.  A typical day consists of communicating with our supporters to show them the impact they are having on those in need.  As Christian HELP grows in response to the need in our community, so does the need to be pro-active in our planning and fundraising.  The impact I am making is ensuring that the Mission of Christian HELP is able to be carried out by helping bring in the funding for the programming.

What do you find most rewarding about your job at the end of the day?

Relationships!!  It is all about relationships.  I feel so blessed to work with those who give sacrificially to others.  They give without strings attached and they give to folks they do not know.

If you had a list of ‘best-kept secrets’ or advice you’d give to anyone with a similar position, what would it be and why?

First and foremost – do not let email dictate your day.

Plan your to-do list the evening before and stick to it as much as you can.

Segment your time out so that due diligence is given to all areas needed for the fundraising at your non-profit.

Looking out 3 to 5 years, beyond the obvious trends, what do you think will be the next big change in your industry?

As the Governmental sector continues to struggle, the demand on the Non-Profit sector will increase causing it to re-evaluate how they are run.  We need to rise up to the challenge and start to operate on more of a business level to increase efficiency to enable us to serve the communities around us.

The primary goal for any nonprofit is to get people to support that nonprofit’s cause so they can make an impact. But, behind each of those causes are hard-working individuals, actively involved in making that impact happen. Through our Making Impact Blog Series, we’re going behind the scenes with America’s Charities member organizations to learn how they’re making impact happen and share insights and advice from the staff and volunteers supporting these initiatives.
