How MADD and Nationwide are Working Together to Save Lives

One in three people in this country will be involved in a drunk driving crash in their lifetime.  Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) is working to protect families from drunk driving and underage drinking through advocacy, a variety of programs and partnerships.

Many generous supporters have helped MADD deliver the strongest awareness and educational programs possible and provide the largest victim services program in the world. As a result, these relationships have helped save almost 300,000 lives. One such relationship is MADD’s partnership with Nationwide Insurance

MADD and Nationwide were in coalitions and legislative pushes together before there was ever a formal partnership. After learning of their joint interest in keeping the roads safe, MADD became partners with Nationwide Insurance in 1995.

What Do You Hope to Accomplish Through This Partnership?

Both MADD and Nationwide are working to save lives through their partnership, and Nationwide has been a strong contributor financially and through volunteers. Through time and talent, Bill Windsor, Nationwide’s SVP of Safety, serves as MADD’s National Board Chair, and each year Nationwide agents around the country walk in MADD’s walks, contribute to Power of Parents trainings, hand out Tie One On For Safety ribbons and more.

As a national presenting sponsor of MADD’s Power of Parents® and  Tie One On For Safety® programs, Nationwide has also sponsored several local Walk Like MADD® events and law enforcement recognition events locally. MADD and Nationwide are also proud to have a cause-related marketing relationship.

MADD and Nationwide Make an Impact

As the National Presenting Sponsor of MADD’s Power of Parents program, Nationwide Insurance knows that when parents and kids are better connected, kids are less likely to drink or use other drugs. Power of Parents is MADD’s first-ever year-round initiative to educate high school parents about the implications of and solutions to underage drinking.

Then, as the National Presenting Sponsor of MADD’s Tie One On For Safety program and a founding sponsor of MADD’s Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving, Nationwide Insurance is dedicated to the fight against drunk driving. Tie One On For Safety is MADD’s longest running public awareness program, encouraging people to put a red ribbon, magnet or window cling on their vehicle to spread the word about the dangers of drunk driving around the holidays.

By helping provide proven solutions in the fights against drunk driving and underage drinking, Nationwide is helping to save lives across the country.

In addition to helping save lives, the partnership has also helped Nationwide make lives safer for their policyholders and meet new potential customers who share Nationwide’s safety focus.

MADD and Nationwide Make an Impact

What Have Been the Results so Far?

Last year, together, we trained 6,200 parents with the Power of Parents program. We also reached hundreds of thousands with Tie One On For Safety ribbons and outreach.

As Ann Ritterspach, AVP of Affinity Relationship Management for Nationwide said, “We are very proud of the relationship we have formed with MADD and look forward to many more successful and mutually beneficial years together!”

Our thanks to MADD for sharing how their relationship with Nationwide Insurance got started and what kind of impact they’re trying to make in the community!  To learn more about the impact MADD is making through their other partnernships or to learn how you can partner with MADD, visit www.madd.org/sponsors.
