Give to help Louisiana over the long term

The Olympics has just wrapped up. It’s an election year. There are a ton of things demanding our attention at the moment, but one thing that’s been just under the radar is the immense flooding of Louisiana.

On Sunday, August 14, President Obama declared that a major disaster exists in the State of Louisiana and ordered Federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by severe storms and flooding. The federal disaster declaration comes after Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards declared a state of emergency across Louisiana this past weekend.

Torrential rains prompted historic flooding, dropping more than twenty inches of rain between August 11 and 13. At least 13 deaths have been attributed to the flooding, more than 20,000 people were rescued, and 12,000 are currently in shelters.

We know federal and state government aid won’t be enough. Our charitable contributions are also necessary to reach the thousands of people now without homes.

A donation to the new America’s Charities Disaster Recovery Fund – Louisiana Floods, developed in partnership with the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP), helps make a difference today, tomorrow and beyond – long after the cameras have left and the nation has moved on.

By giving to the America’s Charities Disaster Recovery Fund – Louisiana Floods, your donation dollars are distributed to vetted nonprofits, based on in-depth research conducted by CDP. By diving deep into the needs of Louisiana’s residents and survivors, CDP identifies the ongoing challenges and unpacks the issues for you. America’s Charities will disperse donations as the needs of the disaster dictates, and we’ll be in touch every step of the way so you know specifically how your donation has advanced the recovery process. We’ll share as many stories and pictures of those nonprofits on the ground that we can. You can read more about our partnership here.

We all instinctively give with our hearts, which means when disaster strikes, we give immediately and intuitively. Yet that doesn’t always help in the long run, and we are not always sure if our donations are really improving the lives of people in need. America’s Charities Disaster Recovery Fund – Louisiana Floods leverages American generosity—your generosity—by enabling immediate donations and using the Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s expert analysis to best determine how those funds should be allocated to vetted charities over the long-term.

There are several ways you can access America’s Charities Disaster Recovery Fund to support those impacted by these devastating floods:

  1.  Make this Fund available on your employer’s workplace giving platform. Donating at the workplace is convenient and has proven to facilitate greater levels of giving.
