800 Families to Receive Food and Essentials
WICHITA, Kan. (Mar. 17, 2014) On Friday, March 21, Feed The Children will deliver two semi tractor-trailers full of food and essentials to help 800 Wichita area families. The food and essentials will be distributed the next day (March 22) at 9 a.m. at Wichita Dream Center (2000 S. Hillside).
Nearly one in four children living in Wichita (27 percent) is considered impoverished. In fact, the number of children living in poverty in Kansas (135,000) could fill Cessna Stadium four and a half times.
Feed The Children partner agency, Wichita Dream Center, has pre-identified families receiving the boxes. Each family will receive a 25-pound box of food and a 10-pound box of personal care items. The boxes are designed to help a family of four for up to one week.
The Americans Feeding Americans Caravan has helped hundreds of thousands of families across the country since it began in 2009. Volunteers will be on hand to help distribute boxes.
We are so thankful to Wichita Dream Center for helping to provide food and essentials to children and their families,” said Erin Engelke, spokesperson for Feed The Children. “We hope people will help us put more trucks on the road and provide assistance for fellow Americans who are suffering through the current economic downturn.
