Membership Frequently Asked Questions
What are State and Local Campaigns?
State and Local governments often run workplace giving campaigns for their own government employees. These campaigns raise unrestricted funding for approved charity participants.
What are the benefits of participating independently and the benefits of participating through America’s Charities?Â
How many campaigns are there?
There are currently more than 60 campaigns nationwide and within 20 states. Some states can have multiple campaigns – first at the state government and then smaller city or county governments. Members of America’s Charities provide the bulk of documentation requirements upfront. This eliminates the need to have to produce these items every time a campaign application is due.Â
What is required to participate?Â
All State and Local campaigns are different but there are some commonalities:
- Up-to-date State registrations
- Financials, such as IRS Form 990, Audit, Annual Report or equivalent
- Items such as signatures, certifications, description of services or campaign specific applications
Members of America’s Charities provide the bulk of documentation requirements upfront. This eliminates the need to have to produce these items every time a campaign application is due.
Is the ROI there?
Absolutely. Below are some of the campaigns that our charities participated in recently:
- Washington State Combined Fund Drive (State) raised $4.2 million for participating charities in 2025.
- Texas State Employee Charitable Campaign (State) raised $4.3 million for participating charities in 2024.
- King County Employee Giving Campaign (Local) raised $2.3 million for participating charities in 2025.
When do campaigns accept applications and when do the campaigns kick off?
Most State and Local campaigns open for application submission starting in December and run through May, with a small handful of applications in the summer and even early fall.
Campaigns generally launch in the fall where employees make their pledges to donate, typically via payroll deductions. Campaigns typically run anywhere from a month to several months, with three to four months being the most common.
Distribution of funds from the campaigns start in late winter or early spring.
