America’s Charities, a nonprofit itself, helps you help others through workplace giving, employee engagement, and CSR. We sit squarely at the intersection of the nonprofit sector and employers, helping both sustainably increase social impact.

We are seeking a Marketing and Communications Intern for the upcoming semester (now through Summer 2019). This part-time, unpaid position based in Chantilly, Virginia – a suburb of Washington, DC – provides on-the-job training and actionable career experience. America’s Charities is committed to working with you to ensure that the experience is practical and career-building. We are also happy to work with you and your advisors to receive college credit for your work.

Primary Purpose: Support America’s Charities marketing and communications team in the execution of marketing, public relations, communications, and social media strategies. This is a 15 hour per week hands-on job focused on materials development, outreach and measurement, research, and writing. Reports to Lindsay Nichols, America’s Charities’ Vice President of Marketing and Communications.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the implementation of a comprehensive B2B and strategic communications strategy including writing blog posts, developing a conferences calendar and pitching speaking opportunities, and researching awards and other relevant opportunities for America’s Charities and its experts
  • Curate and post content on America’s Charities’ many social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google+, YouTube, and Wikipedia
  • Engage with followers to encourage conversation and participation in workplace giving and employee engagement related topics, and respond to questions and concerns reactively
  • Develop and refresh collateral and creative content
  • Monitor and measure marketing and communications activities and develop metrics and analytics reports
  • Support America’s Charities’ media relations efforts including developing a monthly earned media placement report, researching and sending America’s Charities’ leaders a weekly news round-up, drafting and placing bylined articles in target publications, researching letters to the editor and opinion editorial opportunities, etc.
  • Support marketing efforts of Business Development and Client Engagement Solutions teams, including creating materials and conducting market research
  • Support the development of internal communications strategy and webinar program

Qualifications:

  • A true desire to learn and dedication to the internship, including a commitment to arriving on time and working hard (this we cannot stress enough – we need someone hardworking and willing to learn!)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; attention to detail and organizational skills a must
  • Currently studying marketing, communications, PR, journalism, English, creative writing, or related course
  • Ability to work independently and manage high-detail, deadline-sensitive projects with professional quality
  • Team player attitude, demonstrated by being flexible and responsible as well as being a self-starter
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Who is eligible?

Current undergraduate and graduate college students are eligible for the internship program. To qualify, you must be pursuing a degree, certificate or diploma (full-time or part-time), and at least 18 years of age. You also need to be in good academic standing at your school and a U.S. citizen.
