Employee Assistance Fund Application Specialist
Position: Employee Assistance Fund Application Specialist, Client Engagement (CE)
Department: Client Engagement
Reports to: Vice President, Client Engagement
America’s Charities inspires employees and organizations to support causes they care about. We do this to bring more resources to the nonprofits that are changing our world.
In its 40 years as a leader in employee giving, America’s Charities, itself a 501(c)(3) membership-based nonprofit, has raised more than $750 million for more than 20,000 nonprofits addressing causes including education, human rights, hunger, poverty, research, animal welfare, veteran assistance, disaster relief, and health services.
Since 1980, America’s Charities has been at the forefront of workplace giving’s transformation – from paper pledges to digital platforms, from giving to engagement, from traditional fall campaigns to year-round opportunities inside and outside the walls of the workplace.
America’s Charities is currently seeking an Employee Assistance Fund (EAF) Application Specialist to join the Client Engagement (CE) team. The EAF Application Specialist will be responsible for reviewing applicant materials for America’s Charities’ EAF clients. An EAF, also called an Employee Relief Fund or Employee Crisis Fund, is a program that helps employees cope with unexpected financial hardships that place undue stress on an employee or his or her family. Hardships can be caused by a range of circumstances including disasters and other qualifying events causing financial need and distress due to their impact on the ability to meet basic needs (such as food and shelter), e.g., unexpected medical illness or injury, military deployment, a victim of a crime.
Many employers establish these funds to assist their employees with the financial challenges these types of events present. An EAF enables employees to recover more quickly, demonstrates a company’s care for employees and commitment to their well-being, and provides co-workers an opportunity to help their colleagues.
The EAF Application Specialist will be responsible for reviewing EAF application materials and supporting documentation, including but not limited to photos of the damage, personal financial statements, and certification of medical condition/medical bills and repair estimates to ensure they are complete and all required documentation has been provided. The EAF Application Specialist must also ensure that all materials are in compliance with the client and America’s Charities’ EAF policy language. If any applications are incomplete, the Specialist will work with the applicant to cure deficiencies in a timely manner. Once materials are complete, the Specialist will make a recommendation of eligibility and award, if eligible, to the America’s Charities Employee Assistance Fund Committee, who will then make a final determination. This is a part-time, hourly position.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
- Reviews EAF applications, conducts follow up as necessary, evaluates and makes preliminary recommendations for approval/award to America’s Charities EAF Committee for their final review and approval.
- Reviews and analyzes applications and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with both client and America’s Charities EAF policy requirements.
- Supports EAF client accounts, including data entry and record-keeping, and acts as a liaison to the EAF team when issues arise and/or assistance is needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred and 1-3 years of experience in customer service or client service role.
- Superior interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and interact with clients and their employees.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate and prioritize.
- Solution-focused and detail-oriented with the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Team player with the ability to build effective working relationships throughout all levels of the organization.
- Strong computer skills, e.g., Microsoft Office applications and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems; adept at learning new technologies.
- Bilingual (English / Spanish) a plus.
