Mentor Point Foundation

Point Foundation empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer students to achieve their full academic and leadership potential and make a significant impact on society.

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Scholarship Fund - Point Foundation

Point Foundation (Point) is the nation's largest scholarship-granting organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) students of merit. Point Foundation's purpose is to empower LGBTQ students of merit, many of whom might otherwise be at an academic and social disadvantage as a direct result of their sexual orientation or gender identity. While empowerment is a lofty goal, Point Foundation achieves it by providing education, mentorship, leadership development, and community service training; as well as the financial ability to attend the nation's foremost institutions of higher education; to our scholars.

Since its inception in 2001, Point Foundation has invested more than $18 million in the education and support of over 200 outstanding Point Scholars. For the 2016/2017 academic year Point is funding 73 Point Scholars throughout the country and 11 Community College Scholarship Recipients in Los Angeles and New York. By helping these individuals obtain a solid educational foundation, Point is building a generation of leaders who are committed to both personal achievement and increasing acceptance and understanding of LGBTQ people within society as a whole.

Unlike many scholarship organizations, Point Foundation provides our scholars with much more than just a check for tuition. When Point chooses a scholar, we commit to that scholar's education for two to four years, paying tuition, as well as room and board, as needed. Moreover, Point manages all scholarship funds, paying each scholar's tuition and related bills directly. In addition to financial support, we also provide access to the social capital necessary to succeed in the professional world. We pair scholars with mentors in their fields of study, facilitate corporate internship opportunities, and offer extensive community service and leadership programming.

Point is committed to making higher education accessible for LGBTQ students. Through scholarships and robust supportive programming, the organization empowers its scholars and alumni and gives them the support and encouragement they need to excel throughout higher education and beyond.
