PAWS Atlanta is a private, not-for-profit, 501(c)3 charitable organization. We provide love, nutrition, medical care and basic training to enrich the lives of homeless animals until permanent, safe homes can be found. Our mission is to build a community of caring, by people helping pets and pets helping people. Since our inception, originally as the DeKalb Humane Society in 1966, PAWS Atlanta has adopted over 46,000 animals into loving, permanent homes. As one of the oldest and very few no-kill shelters in Georgia, we focus highly on each pet’s health. We go to great lengths to provide medical care for extreme illness or injury for all pets in our care and are confident that he or she goes into a forever home healthy. In 2006, we launched two community programs that are vital to our mission. We began offering discounted vaccinations and spay/neuter services to the community. In the past five years, we have spayed or neutered over 6,000 animals and vaccinated over 15,000 animals in Metro Atlanta through our low-cost clinics. In addition to pet adoption services, we offer low-cost vaccinations, spay and neutering, discount health preventatives, summer camps, a pet dental clinic, a pet food bank and education through community outreach. We receive no funding from federal, state or county governments; the vital we offer to the community are made possible by our program fees, grants, fundraising and the generosity of our supporters.
