Montgomery Hospice, Inc., is an independent, nonprofit hospice that has provided extraordinary end-of-life care to terminally-ill residents of Montgomery County since 1981. Since 2019 we have served Prince George’s County residents under the name Prince George’s Hospice. Our mission is to gentle the journey through serious illness and loss with skill and compassion. Montgomery Hospice, Inc., (as Montgomery Hospice and Prince George’s Hospice) provides professional medical, emotional, and spiritual care for children and adults in the last months, weeks, and days of life. We depend on community support for costs not covered by patient insurance, care for uninsured patients, and free grief support to the community. All patients receive services without regard to insurance status or personal financial resources.
In the Hospice at Home program, our interdisciplinary team of doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, nursing assistants, spiritual counselors (chaplains), social workers, bereavement counselors, and volunteers works with our patients and their families to provide high quality end-of-life care in private residences, nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
Our Montgomery Kids program offers compassionate care for children, infants through young adults, who have a life-limiting illness. Specialized care is provided by an interdisciplinary pediatric team that works with the children, their families and their doctors. Montgomery Kids helps families care for their children in their homes, surrounded by the people and things they love.
Casey House, with 14 private rooms, is the only healthcare facility in Montgomery County designed exclusively for end-of-life care. It offers a comfortable, home-like atmosphere for acute care when a patient’s symptoms cannot be relieved at home.
Montgomery Hospice, Inc., offers complementary therapies to integrate holistic services with medical palliative care. Music therapy, Comfort Touch® gentle touch therapy; massage; Reiki; aromatherapy; and pet visits help relieve patients’ pain and symptoms and reduce their feelings of anxiety and isolation.
Our professional counselors provide grief support without charge to family members of adult patients for thirteen months after the loss of their loved one and for two years to Montgomery Kids families. This bereavement care helps families cope with grief and adjust to their changed lives. We also offer support groups and workshops without charge to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one, friend or colleague.
Through our Palliative Medicine Consultants services, we help patients who are pursuing curative treatment for life-limiting illnesses. Our team of doctors, nurse practitioners, social worker, and chaplain collaborates with the patients’ physician to help them understand and evaluate their options and address physical, emotional, and spiritual symptoms.
Each year, Montgomery Hospice, Inc., provides compassionate end-of-life care to more than 2,300 patients and their families. Additionally, about 5,000 individuals annually receive grief support after their loss through mailings, phone calls, and/or participate in free support groups and workshops.
