The Children's Inn at NIH is a "home" for children, and their families, participating in ground-breaking clinical research trials at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Each year, more than 1,500 children call The Inn "home" as they battle life-threatening illnesses in NIH trials that change the face of medicine for the entire world.

Since The Inn opened its doors in 1990, we have supported more than 15,000 children and their families from all 50 states and 106 countries. We can house up to 60 families every night, where we take care of the little things at no cost to them so that they can focus on the big ones: keeping their sick child happy, making time for themselves, and supporting one another.

The Inn hosts nightly family dinners in our vibrant community spaces, children run from the game room to the teen lounge, and parents enjoy a morning cup of coffee in our cozy cafe. Because each family member with a sick child needs support, our programs are available to siblings, parents, and caregivers. Last year, we offered 1,085 virtual and in-person recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities that let families experience the joys of everyday life and soothe the soul of a sick child- like exploring exhibits at the Smithsonian or turning the frustration of illness into art in one of our many creative classes.

The Children's Inn brings together courageous children who participate in NIH trials, their loving families and caregivers who provide unwavering support, and the world-renowned NIH clinicians and staff who make ground-breaking medical discoveries. These individuals drive discoveries that will be the first steps to eradicating diseases and creating better lives possible. The Children's Inn is where we bring people together to make childhood possible today and a cure likely tomorrow.
