Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence
Brady works to make gun violence prevention a non-partisan issue by taking action, not sides. By leading with facts and designing evidence-based programs that address root causes of America’s gun violence epidemic, Brady unites Americans on both sides of the aisle in the fight against gun violence. Brady’s mission is to reduce rates of gun violence in the United States 25% by 2025 using a three-part strategy of litigation, legislation, and education.
This strategic breadth is essential because gun violence takes many forms. Urban homicide, suicide, and
unintentional shootings have different root causes that, together, contribute to the 100 people who are shot and killed every day. Brady programs are designed to specifically address each aspect of gun violence at its source. A thought leader in the movement, Brady partners its expertise in gun violence with national experts in other fields, like education, suicidology, advertising, and social work to ensure that our work is cutting edge and impactful. Our key programs include:
End Family Fire – a groundbreaking PSA social norm change campaign aimed at engaging gun owners around the risks of having guns unsafely stored in the home. Phase I of the campaign stressed the importance of keeping guns out of the hands of children and at-risk individuals. Phase II of the campaign shifts gears to focus on promoting safe storage behaviors as a means to prevent suicide. The veteran community is a key target audience for Phase II as the rate of suicide for veterans is double that of civilians.
Team ENOUGH - With Team ENOUGH, Brady provides the next generation of leaders with the resources and knowledge necessary to tackle the gun violence issues that matter most to them and their communities.
The Combating Crime Guns Initiative - Brady’s Combating Crime Guns Initiative targets the gun dealers who supply the majority of guns recovered from crime scenes.
Brady Legal - Brady has the only legal team in the country dedicated to bringing cases against the gun industry on behalf of victims and challenging these legislative protections. Brady’s litigation is centered on reforming the gun industry and securing justice for victims and survivors of gun violence. At Brady, we believe our comprehensive approach, well-defined programs, and bold goals are essential to meet our mission. Gun violence is not pausing in the midst of this global pandemic; whether it is in the form of domestic violence, community violence, suicide, or unintentional shootings, the epidemic of gun violence remains a daily part of American life.
