CFC Update: The 2018 CFC Solicitation Period Will Be Extended

Valued Nonprofit Members:

We last reached out to you about the partial government shutdown on January 14 – here is the latest you should know:

  • The official solicitation period for the 2018 CFC was September 10, 2018 through Friday, January 11, 2019. On January 15, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) published CFC Memorandum 2019-01 approving the extension of the 2018 solicitation period for at least 20 business days (not to exceed 31 calendar days) following the end of the partial shutdown.
  • What this means: after the shutdown ends, the 2018 campaign will continue for a period of 20-31 days, during which time federal and military personnel will be able to donate through the CFC’s online giving portal or by submitting a paper pledge form. Solicitations and promotional efforts in the workplace are authorized to continue during this period, however major CFC events will not be held in the federal workplace unless they were planned prior to the shutdown; previously planned campaign closing events, recognition events, and awards ceremonies will be held but no new events will take place.

Here are some steps we recommend you take in light of this update:

  1. Continue to let us know how your organization is helping federal employees during the shutdown. We have collected some great stories so far and are sharing them with our wider network.
  2. Continue to show your appreciation for federal donors and let them know the difference they make by giving through the CFC. Resources on how to do this can be found in our 2018 Promotion Guide and you can also reach out to us for guidance.
  3. Once the shutdown ends, be sure to broadcast the CFC extension as widely as possible – chances are that personnel will not realize they are still able to give.

We will continue to share updates as they come in – please feel free to contact us with any questions at clientsolutions@charities.org.
