Brain Biopsies Improve Diagnosis and Offer Treatment InsightWhen Tucker, an 8-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi, was diagnosed with a brain mass, his owner felt fortunate because veterinarians were able to determine the exact type of cells within the mass. Having this knowledge enabled them to make a well-informed decision about treatment, and Tucker lived an additional 11 months after his radiation and chemotherapy treatments.

For many dogs that develop brain tumors, the diagnosis is much trickier. That’s because current technology, primarily magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), can’t diagnose the tumor type. This lack of knowledge makes it challenging for veterinarians and owners to determine the best course of action.

Fortunately, Tucker was part of a Morris Animal Foundation–funded clinical trial taking place at Washington State University.
