Doing What’s Right for Seniors Benefits Us All

Older Americans Act Nutrition Programs, like Meals on Wheels, make a social and economic difference in the lives of more than 2.5 million seniors, including over half a million veterans.  They offer taxpayers a significant return on investment by averting unnecessary hospitalizations and nursing home care paid through Medicare and Medicaid dollars.  Meals on Wheels programs are part of the solution to our nation’s fiscal challenges.

Yesterday, members of the Meals On Wheels Association of America Board of Directors joined Association President and CEO Ellie Hollander on a panel to discuss what Congress can do to make sure Senior Nutrition Programs across the country, like Meals on Wheels, can keep their doors open and routes running. With the December 13 budget report deadline approaching, panelists urged Congress to negotiate a balanced plan that ends sequestration and protects Senior Nutrition Programs from further cuts.

Below, Meals on Wheels CEO, Ellie Hollander joins Martin Bashir to discuss Meals on Wheels’ fight against federal funding cuts – and balancing budgets on the backs of seniors and the poor.
