The Sesame Street Yellow Feather Fund
Sesame Street is an educational force for change in the U.S. and around the world.
We are a nonprofit with a mission to help children everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder. Sesame Street began nearly 50 years ago as a way to help level the playing field for underprivileged children—and we’re still doing that, in a multitude of ways, in more than 150 countries around the world.
Sesame Street plays a unique role, using the power of media and our Muppets to reach and teach kids where they are – through technology and in person, in their communities. We are the only organization that speaks directly to young children and their caregivers, tackling the most difficult issues, but always in a non-threatening way, through the lens of a child.
We started the Yellow Feather Fund as a grassroots avenue for fans and supporters to contribute — and to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children.
Here are some ways we are helping kids around the world grow smarter, stronger, and kinder:
- Our “See Amazing in All Children” initiative helps reduce stigma and misconceptions about autism, which affects one in 68 American kids.
- We help military families cope with tough situations like deployment, injury, or returning to civilian life.
- Our engaging girl Muppets like Zari in Afghanistan and Chamki in India show girls and boys alike how important it is for girls to be educated, empowered, and to dream big.
- We’ve teamed up with the International Rescue Committee to address the greatest humanitarian crisis of our time by bringing education directly to young refugees who have had to flee homes and schools.
- …and so much more.
