Make-A-Wish Foundation of America

At Make-A-Wish Foundation® of America, we believe a single wish transforms lives. That’s why we are on a mission to grant the wish of every child diagnosed with a critical illness. Every day, 74 children are diagnosed with a critical illness and of those, only half receive their one true wish. This means too many children are not getting everything they need to help fight their illness.

Wishes can change the odds for children fighting their illness. A wish helps kids look past their limitations, families overcome anxiety and entire communities experience joy. Most importantly, wishes can improve a child’s quality of life.

With the help of generous donors and more than 33,000 volunteers, Make-A-Wish granted more than 15,300 wishes. It's our vision to grant the wish of every eligible child – nearly 27,000 children. We want to help every single family enduring this struggle to discover hope, strength and joy.

In 2015, Make-A-Wish Israel participated in a study* to measure the effects of granting a wish to children with critical illnesses. The results revealed wishes increased their hope and decreased their perception of physical limitations. Overall, the study reinforced the importance of our mission and the visible impact we are having on wish kids and their families.

Every wish experience begins with a referral. Wish referrals can come from parents or guardians, medical professionals and from children themselves. When a wish granting team first visits a child, these volunteers have a simple goal: to help identify a child's one true wish. Wishes usually fall into four categories: I wish to go, I wish to meet, I wish to be or I wish to have. But, the child’s imagination is always the driving force in creating the wish experience.

The fulfillment of a wish creates inspirational moments during times that can be very difficult for children and their families. Make-A-Wish makes every effort to include the immediate family in the child's wish, because watching a wish come true creates joy for everyone involved.

We are proud of the way we manage and safeguard generous contributions from individual donors, corporations and other organizations. Those who contribute to our mission can do so knowing we are good stewards of their money. Make-A-Wish is an accredited charity under the Better Business Bureau® Wise Giving Alliance’s Standards for Charity Accountability, meaning we meet their criteria for fair and honest dealings and ethical practices.

You have a wealth of choices in sharing your resources. There are many worthy causes. But helping grant a wish is immediate. It's tangible. It's something that can help someone in your community right now. Ask any wish family, and you'll understand the extraordinary impact of a wish. By selecting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America, CFC #11375, you can share the power of a wish®! For more information about Make-A-Wish, call 1-800-722-WISH or visit wish.org.
