KIPP Austin Public Schools

What our organization does:

KIPP Austin Public Schools is part of the nationally recognized “Knowledge Is Power Program” network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools dedicated to preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life.  There are currently 125 KIPP schools in 20 states and the District of Columbia. At KIPP, students are accepted regardless of prior academic record or conduct.

Founded in 2002, KIPP Austin is a network of seven schools serving more than 2,000 students in East Austin.  In 2016, we will serve 5,000 students across 10 schools. For 10 years we have proven that demographics do not define destiny.

How you can help & how your donation makes an impact:

How you can help:

As KIPP Austin expands, our need forKIPP Austin Public Schools dedicated teachers who want to share in our mission increases.  If you know a great educator who wants to make a difference with Austin students, please refer them to us.

In Texas, public charter schools like KIPP also receive less state funds than traditional public schools. In addition, KIPP provides a longer school day and school year. Therefore, we rely on the generous support of individuals, foundations, and corporations in order to deliver a rigorous, college-preparatory education.

How your company can help:

As a charter school, KIPP Austin does not receive state funding for facilities.  We encourage companies to bring employees out for volunteer workdays to help us make our campus a place our students want to be.  We have projects ranging from painting to landscaping to classroom set-up, that we need community support to complete.

Why we're successful & what we wish more people knew:

KIPP Austin is committed to underserved studentsKIPP Austin Public Schools in the Austin community.  KIPP is helping all students climb the mountain to and through college by providing:

•    Outstanding educators,
•    More time in school learning, and
•    A strong culture of achievement.

Considering the lack of educational opportunities available to underserved Austin students, KIPP Austin Public Schools has an extraordinary opportunity to impact the number of college-ready minority and low-income students in Austin.

With the first pod of five schools outlined in our expansion plan, KIPP Austin will graduate 180 students and more than double the number of college-ready and college-admitted minority and economically disadvantaged students in Austin each year. At full enrollment, KIPP Austin will educate 5,280 underserved students, graduating 360 college-ready and college-admitted students each year.

Our students will graduate not only college ready, but ready to blossom into the next generation of leaders who will continue to work to improve our community.
