Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington DC Opens Their New House!

The Ronald McDonald Charities of Greater Washington, D.C. proudly held the grand opening on January 7th of their new Ronald McDonald House on 14th Street NE. The brand new structure replaces their previous House that was originally built in 1912.

The facility has 26 guest bedrooms, almost doubling its previous capacity. It also provides four isolation suites for children who have received bone marrow, liver or kidney transplants, protecting them from exposure to infections. The new House includes common family and support areas, a family kitchen and dining room, a family library and business center with computers, an arts and crafts/activity room, and a family laundry facility. It will meet the modern needs of families coping with seriously ill children.

Transitioning to a new House allowed them to build “Green”. Green homes use less energy, water and natural resources, create less waste, and are more durable and comfortable for occupants. It has been targeted Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and will be only the 3rd LEED certified Ronald McDonald House in the world.
